7 Fun Activities for Youth Groups

Are you having a difficult time thinking of activities for youth groups? There are so many conflicting opinions about which activities are appropriate for young Christians. To help you think outside the box below is an excellent list of seven games and activities that you can introduce to your young church group.

Bible Scavenger Hunt

This game requires a little bit of preparation, but you can use it over and over again and never have to change it. It is also a fun way to get the group moving around and interacting with each other.

How Do You Do It?

Before the hunt, divide your group into teams of three or four people. Then, choose ten to fifteen verses that are good for memorization and write them down (just the book, chapter, and verse)  on separate index cards. Hide the cards in various places throughout the room and give each team a list of what the verses say and the locations they need to find the index card that matches the verse.

For example: “behind the piano,” “underneath my chair,” “on top of the bookshelf.” Once all of the verses have been found, the teams should sit back down, turn in their cards and see who memorized all of their verses first.

A Bible scavenger hunt is a great way to review memory verses from a previous lesson or study. It will certainly test your ability to retain Biblical knowledge.

Zip Line

A zip line is a high-flying adventure activity that is both fun and challenging. A zip line is composed of wire rope, two pulleys, and a harness. Participants are attached to the wire rope and rise into the air, with only their feet touching the ground as they move along. Ziplines can be installed in a variety of different settings and have become popular as a recreational activity for churches, camps, and community organizations.

Ziplining can be an exciting way to get youth groups out of the classroom setting and experience something new together. Participants will have to rely on their upper body strength as well as their balance to complete this activity.

Clean Standup Comedy

Clean standup comedy is a very interesting activity that helps to bring people closer together and helps to create an environment in which people can relax and have a good time. Clean standup comedy can be very funny, as it does not need to use vulgar or profane language, color material, or sexually explicit material to garner laughter. A lot of people who attend Christian youth groups find this type of clean comedy to be very entertaining.

One of the things that make clean standup comedy so interesting is the fact that it is so funny. It is not hard to laugh at clean standup comedians because they are so good at their craft. You can get clean comedians for hire since they know what they are doing, and they know how to make people laugh. Clean comedians know how to tell jokes in such a way that they are never offensive to anyone in the audience.

If you want to hire clean standup comedians for your Christian youth group event, you need to make sure that you hire someone who is going to put on a good show. You do not want someone who is going to get up on stage and joke about things that are inappropriate or beyond the knowledge of your youth group.

Campfire Worship

A classic youth group activity, campfire worship is an amazing way to build community and enjoy the outdoors at the same time. You’ll need a separate location for your group, but it can be as simple as someone’s backyard or a local park with a fire pit. Once you have your space, all you’ll need are some chairs, snacks, and a guitar (if you want to include live music).

Hiking

Hiking is a great way to get youth groups into nature and closer to God. Choose a hiking trail that’s suitable for all ages and abilities, and pack water and snacks for the hike. Make sure the group has a map and knows where you’re going before you start the hike.

Bring a Bible so you can all read together along the way. You might also want to bring a book of nature poetry or prose so that you can read along the way as well.

Obstacle Course

Obstacle courses are an excellent way to build team spirit and get the kids moving. If you are at a location that has a park, you can use a public playground as part of your course; otherwise, you can get creative with what you have.

Set up an obstacle course with tires to jump through, hoops to jump over, rope ladders, or even just jump into a big pile of leaves.

Tug of War

This classic game is perfect for youth groups and builds unity in your group. Divide them into two teams and let them go at it. The team that pulls their opponents over the line first wins.

In Summary

Whether you are the leader or activity planner for a Christian youth group, it can be hard to come up with fun things to do. However, with a little brainstorming and creativity, it is easy to have an exciting time at every meeting. This list provides a starting point for your creativity as you plan your next event.
